For decades, Minecraft players have been living and travelling in only 3 dimensions, which were - The Overworld, The Nether and The End. but that is about to change because Mojang has officially Confirmed that a brand new dimension is about to be added and it will be available on both Java and Bedrock editions.
The New Dimension - Sift
The new dimension is named the "Sift". It was first introduced as a part of Minecraft Dungeons II , which is about to be launched on 29 September 2026 at the time of writing this article.
The Sift is framed as a mysterious realm accessed through rifts tearing open across the Overworld. A place built for tense, waves-based combat and squad play, distinct from the exploration-driven tone of the main game.
Mojang has taken that idea from MD II and adapted it to the Vanilla Minecraft properly. It seems Mojang saw something in the Sift's reception that it wants core survival and creative players to experience too, not just Dungeons II fans.
What the Players can expect
Right now, there isn't any confirmed detail on how the Sift will function once it's reworked for the main game, whether it will keep the rift-based access point from Dungeons II, what new types of blocks or mobs will populate it, or whether it fits into survival progression of the game, just the way the Nether and End currently do. The reveal is expected to be late September 2026, with a 2027 release window, so expect Mojang to drip-feed specifics through future snapshots and Minecraft Live-style showcases rather than a single big reveal.
For India's massive Minecraft community, spanning Bedrock mobile players, Java modding circles, and a thriving creator and server-hosting scene. A new dimension is the kind of update that reshapes everything downstream. Start expecting Youtube flooding with videos titled "first Sift base tour" content, and server owners to start planning custom Sift-themed game modes well before the official 2027 launch.
Why after so long?
The End's addition in 2011 was a landmark moment, it gave Minecraft an actual ending, a final boss, and a reason to explore beyond survival mode. Since then, updates have gone wide such as adding more biomes, more mobs, more building options) rather than other dimensions. The Sift signals Mojang might be willing to expand the game's fundamental structure again, not just its surface content. That's a bigger shift than a single content drop, and it's likely why outlets are treating this as a milestone announcement rather than routine patch news.
Nothing here is final until Mojang publishes official patch notes or a dedicated dimension breakdown, so treat specifics as subject to change between now and the 2027 rollout.
