PS Plus October 2026 Is Live, and Gamers Are Answering With "No Disc, No Buy"

PS Plus October 2026 brings F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and EDF World Brothers 2. Here's why gamers are answering with "No Disc, No Buy."

PS Plus October 2026 Is Live, and Gamers Are Answering With "No Disc, No Buy"

Sony announced the October PlayStation Plus Monthly Games on September 30. The lineup is F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. Normally that's a quick "nice, free stuff" moment. This time a big chunk of the community used it to keep yelling about one and the only thing, discs.

The Game Lineup

All three games unlock on Tuesday, October 6, and stay claimable until Monday, November 2.

F1 PS5

F1 25 (PS5) is the official game of the 2025 Formula One season. It has Career mode and My Team 2.0, where you run your own team as owner. There's also a new multiplayer mode in F1 World where you and friends race as a squad against AI drivers.

Hunt Showdown 1896

Hunt: Showdown 1896 (PS5) is the extraction shooter with monsters, bounties and other hunters trying to take your loot. You can go solo or bring up to two teammates. It's tense and punishing, and it isn't for everyone.

Eart Defense Force World Brothers 2 PS5 PS4

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 (PS5, PS4) is the odd one out, in a good way. It's a voxel-style EDF spin-off with four-player online co-op and two-player split screen. It's goofy and loud, and probably the best pick for a night with friends.

There are extras too. Spider-Man: Brand New Day avatars are free for members, and there are horror-themed HorrorFest packs, including a Hunt: Showdown 1896 starter pack. September's games (Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes) leave the claim window on October 5.

Cause Of The Reaction From Gamers

The cause behind this reaction from gamers is the feeling around PlayStation, now it isn't about games. It's about owning something.

The "No Disc, No Buy" message became popular after Sony started moving toward a only future and it still hasn't gone away. During the September 3 State of Play people in the chat used that phrase a lot. One message that was popular said "No disc, no buy. Thanks for the 25 years." The event didn't help. Many people said it was big games like Intergalactic and God of War: Laufey weren't there. Some people, in the chat even started asking for Destiny 3 which shows how bored they were.

Then the news got worse for fans who like copies. The physical PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation comes on one disc. It still needs a large download. To players that is a disc but not really a disc.

That's where PS Plus comes in. It is the example of the digital-only plan. You don't own those games. You rent them long as you keep paying and when the subscription ends they disappear. So when a new list of games comes out some people see a gift and others see another sign of what they are losing.

Should you claim the October games?

If you already pay for PS Plus Essential there is no cost to claiming all three. Once claimed they stay in your library while you're subscribed. Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the one likely to hook you or bounce you off in an hour. EDF World Brothers 2 is the fun pick. F1 25 is the one for anyone whos been curious, about the series.

Claim them before November 2. Decide later. Protesting Sonys disc policy and grabbing games aren't mutually exclusive and nobodys checking your loyalty card. But if you wanna show your effort to the cause, then you are more than appreciated by the community if you ask me!
