The long-rumored partnership between Xbox Game Studios and Kojima Productions has finally materialized. During a special Xbox showcase event, Hideo Kojima took the stage to officially unveil OD — a cloud-native horror experience unlike anything the legendary developer has created before.
OD leverages Microsoft's Azure cloud infrastructure to create what Kojima describes as a "living horror experience." The game world evolves in real-time based on aggregate player behavior — if more players explore an area, it becomes safer; if areas are avoided, the threats within them grow more dangerous and unpredictable.
The presentation showed brief gameplay snippets featuring photorealistic character models captured through volumetric scanning. Kojima confirmed that professional actors including Elle Fanning and Jordan Peele are involved, though their exact roles remain deliberately mysterious.
OD will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Game Pass on day one. No release date was given beyond a "2026" window. Kojima noted that the cloud-native architecture means the game's content and narrative will continue to evolve post-launch in ways that "have never been attempted in gaming."
